This old rugged cross took me about 15 minutes to make and it is cute, simple, simplistic and meaningful. Please let me know if you decide to make this old rugged cross and perhaps post a picture of yours on our social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest.
List of supplies:
- Wood Skewers
- Elmer’s Glue or Hot Glue
- Cotton Buds (I used one package of 2 pieces)
Putting it together
I took about 5 wood skewers and, using a pair of scissors, cut off the pointed ends about 1″ up from the bottom. This does not need to be perfect! I took Jute and starting at one end I folded the Jute up the stick a little bit and then wrapped back over it. Then I continued on until the sticks were completely wrapped. I used Elmer’s glue at the end to seal it. just a little bit of Elmer’s glue on the end kind of blended in so you can’t even see it.
Then I used about 4 skewers and held them across the other set to form a cross. Taking the scissors I cut them down to the right size and wrapped them in Jute the same way.
Taking the short stick I put then over the long sticks to form the cross. I then took Jute and wrapped up and over both sides to keep it evenly together. At the end I tied the Jute into a tight knot on the front. Then I trimmed the excess jute and put glue on the knot. I glued the two cotton buds over the middle of the cross and called it done! This is a great looking cross and will be beautiful alone or as part of a larger craft such as on a frame, embroidery hoop or wood pieces.
